We Were Free for Awhile is the biography of Baltimore’s first and last Black Panther Party member, Steve D. McCutchen. Professor Steve was an educator at the Oakland Community School, an award-winning martial artist and poet currently based in California. 

The Black Panther Party, Alumni Legacy Network is composed of original Black Panther Party members and other passionate individuals, students, community organizations, and business owners who share a passion for every member of the community to live long, prosper, and grow educationally, socially, and economically from generation to generation.
