OAKLAND SPIDERS - ENTERTAINING AND INSPIRING THROUGH ULTIMATE FRISBEE
Oaklandish is excited to partner with the Oakland Spiders, an Ultimate Frisbee team that aligns with our vision of uniting and uplifting our local community.
The Oakland Spiders are a professional Ultimate Frisbee team that works to entertain and inspire our community to live healthier and more connected lives through Ultimate Frisbee and principles of Spirit of the Game. Founded in San Jose in 2014, the Spiders officially relocated to Oakland in 2022 following a change in management.
As one of the Town’s newest teams, the Spiders are working hard to show their commitment to Oakland through their non-profit, the Spiders Community Web. Through the Community Web, Spiders players and staff volunteer, fundraise, and support job-training and development, while partnering with Oakland Unified Schools, surrounding East Bay communities, and multiple youth Ultimate teams. Through grassroots outreach the Spiders have brought the magic of Ultimate to more than 1,000 children and teens of all backgrounds annually since 2022.
Ultimate Frisbee is a fast-paced 7v7 team sport played on an American Football field combining elements of Soccer, Football, and Basketball. Teams attempt to score as many goals as possible each game, by catching the Frisbee in the opposing teams endzone. If a player catches the Frisbee outside the endzone they may not run with it, and must establish a pivot foot before attempting another pass within 7-seconds. Turnovers result in a change of possession and play continues until a goal is scored. Games are generally high-scoring, with players showcasing elite athleticism, skill, and speed.
Competing in the West Division of the 23-team Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA), the Spiders have made their mark by clinching championship titles in both 2014 and 2015. Fans can catch Spiders games at Fremont High School in Oakland, with the regular season spanning from May to July.
